Real-time Light Painting

Saint Mary's College chapel

During my research of inspirational images for “A Movable Feast”, I came upon this real-time light painting from a reality show in Japan. The painter moves with such fluidity and the product is fascinating. Throughout the few minutes of painting, many layers are revealed and discovered. I am particularly interested in how the body motion results in a feast for the eyes–I see this piece as an ultimate form of incorporated performing and fine arts.

I have recently been imagining creating a dance around the De La Salle statue at Saint Mary’s College of California. The dance time would be limited to how long the shutter would be open on the camera. The movements would combine to create a cake around the statue–individual dancers would be in charge of designing candles, cake, and icing by focusing their gestures, tempo, and repetition to paint the end product. Besides the completed photographed image, I think the choreographed motions would be as interesting to capture; the various levels, repetition, and direct small-sphere focus would be appealing to watch–just as I find myself watching the painter just as much as the painting during this clip:

Fotoconfectioner Updates

There is a new blog header! I’m glad this one is much more influenced by my photography. The wood is from a drawer at my grandmother’s house.

Also, the ‘For Everett’ page has been changed to the ‘For Steven Ents Treehill’ page; there is also a new password to access this page (what is an r/ents favorite time of day?). Please email me an inquiry if you are curious.
